Typically, your average person does not have the following to capitalize on the power of social media. So, what should you do when you witness or are victim of police misconduct and have it on video?
Step 1: FILE A REPORT WITH THE LOCAL DEPARTMENT
Understand you are not alone in feeling misconduct has been committed and others may have reports about the same officer be sure to share the video to local Facebook groups and chats to spread the word locally.
Step 2: POST IN HIGH TRAFFIC AREAS OR THREADS
Nationally there are very visible groups such as BLM that have mainstream support as well as a high number of influencers on apps such as Tik Tok that have millions of followers.
Step 3: PERSISTENCE IS KEY
Making a post viral requires persistence. Continuously sharing and re-sharing your story on every platform you can, and remember, other voices do not matter more than yours but may be louder on the social spectrum. Do not be afraid to have others share your story as well.
